Ahzarit (A T-54 converted into an APC). Now,
there's something for Russian designers (and military leadership) to
learn. Yes, it weighs about 30 tons. Yes, it can't swim. But YES, it
does PROTECT TROOPS! I haven't heard of a single one of those get killed
in Lebanon, despite the fact that Ahzarit is in service for at least
some 6-8 years, and Hezbollah are experts in ATGM use. And BTW, it does
have a REAR entrance. Nothing at all like the BTR-T that showed up
recently in Russia! (LaTroune '95). |

Ahzarit. Check out the rear entrance (to the
right of the engine grille). The door visible on this pic folds down,
forming a sort of ramp to walk down. There's also a top hatch above the
entrance that opens to the right (reminds of the solution in BMP-3, but
the passage is FAR MORE spacious, you can walk through it - if you duck
that is). (LaTroune '95). |
